This is so inspiring. I wish I could be brave enough to draw again - I don’t know what is holding me back - but your work, and your writing about your work, is definitely encouraging me.

Anne! Hello and thank you! It's so strange the things that hold us back... I get held back all the time also and often have no idea but then it kind of builds up like a crazy beast and I need to let it out or I kind of explode! Definitely draw again... Your stories are always so very wonderful - I'd love to see what you draw! xx

I am glad you shared Anna. I have loved all the stages of your art and travels. Your line drawings were lovely so hopefully can be part of the evolving style. The development of colour is also wonderful. How to use it all? Thank you and keep sharing the journey.

Ha yes! The dilemma of how to use it all at once... cx

It’s always good to hear from you Anna, and I feel very lucky to have followed some of this artistic journey since we met in Melbourne and I was admiring your sketchbook! I’ll be really interested to see how your style adjusts yet again to your new landscapes

Helen! Hello abs thank you! And yes my foray into the Melbourne urban sketchers was my first experience drawing with others outside! I always wished I made it to more. But it was hard to make the time to get there from my countryside base! I always love seeing your work also! X

I think you were already in Cornwall when I discovered you, but you're one of the best highlights of my Instagram feed. Your reels are like poetry, seeing nature and tucked away houses in ways that broaden my perspective. Thank you.

Thanks so very much Jenny! Your comment made my day! I actually didn't mean to share this - and I completely went white and panicked when I realised i send it out to my mailing list but you made me feel sooo much better. Thanks soooo much! x

Or maybe you were visiting Norway? Or just had? This is the post where I discovered you and was so taken with the blues that I couldn't look away. https://www.instagram.com/p/CKot-BFn97z/?hl=en

Ahh yes! That is of Norway but purely imagined. It was during the first big lockdown when we couldn’t go anywhere at all and I started drawing all the places I’d love to be :) thanks for reminding me of that picture! I love those blues too and don’t use them enough.

I can’t believe you have only been drawing since 2014! I love your line drawings! I love your colour drawings! I started watching your work around the time you did the drawing with my Australian cousin Miriam Hechtman’s poem. There is something about your touch and sensibility that is so charming... refreshing, as if you are charmed by the translucence, the light of what is in front of you.I loved your Tallinn treatment of people in the streets... especially the transparency. I, for one kind of hope that you will not lose your ink pen. Your capacity of line is a language unto itself. Someday I hope to be able to live in the company of your work. Thank you for todays sharing of thoughts and insights. Wishing you the best of times and explorations in Edinburgh

Thank you so much! And wow, you are Miriam's cousin! She is the most marvellous poet. Such a joy to read her work. Oh and it's so lovely to hear you like my ink line. I do love it too and feel I'd love to bring it back somehow... it's really hard to integrate it all. So many thanks for your lovely well wishes and also your insight and thoughts - they mean a lot.

I thought you were brave to share this but it is so wonderful that you did. The fact that you came back to drawing and evolved so much gives me pause and maybe even hope Yes I am her Canadian cousin. A ceramist. I remember wanting to put your drawings on clay.

Thanks so much for the reassurance! And a ceramicist, wow! If I had another life that’s what I’d do with it. I just adore ceramics.

So fascinating to read about how your art has evolved! I've been a fan on IG since the Tallinn-art days, so it was neat to get a peek into your drawing from Mongolia, too. :)

Hello Dot and thank you so much! I am pleased you enjoyed the little tour into my past drawing life. Thanks for the lovely comment - I actually accidentally shared this with everyone so panicked! But you made me feel so much better by your lovely comment. Thanks very much

A happy accident for all of us! I write about creativity for work, but I'm not a very good artist. It was such a treat to read about how someone who IS talented approaches the nuances of creative growth. Keep writing, keep accidentally sharing!

Thanks so much Dot for the lovely reassurance. It’s amazing how terrifying it feels putting my ideas and thoughts out in the world. Drawings feel easier! Writing much more terrifying.

Hi Anna, what an inspiring and just lovely post! ❤️ It’s so interesting to be taken through the development and changes in your style, material and practice and how places have an influence on that. Having no background or anything in the arts, drawing, painting etc. myself (just with words), I find myself deeply fascinated by your way of showing and writing about your artist’s journey. So inspiring!

Oh, and I particulary loved your drawing „breakthrough with drawing trees“ – and the drawings of finding trees and greenery in Edinburgh. 🌳😍

Looking forward to more posts (while reading the older ones) and being curious where inspiration will take you on your journey! 😀
